We think that by taking a proactive approach to disasters, we may lessen suffering, thus we aim to reduce communities' underlying vulnerabilities and foster resilient cultures. We educate and mobilise community members to share disaster preparedness lessons with their neighbours, reducing destruction and loss when catastrophes occur. Natural disasters harm millions of individuals every year. People are traumatised by the loss of relatives and friends, and their lives are destroyed by the loss of livelihood. The impact is significant, and the number of persons afflicted and the length of time they are impacted has increased considerably in recent decades. In the following years, this tendency is projected to continue. Local institutions that can play a proactive role in disaster management are desperately needed to deal with calamities.
